The Devilneck Challenge
August 18, 2008
The only place to be this Bank Holiday Friday (the 22nd) Is the Coachman Pub, in Northwich, hosted by the the one and only Squirmy. Originally UKPL was supposed to be fronting a team to challenge the Northwich regulars, headed by the infamous (around Northwich anyway) Devilneck. Demand to get in on this far exceeded expectation, and nearly every contributing member of UKPL wanted in on the action, to the extremes that the team plan has been waylaid, and it is now everyman for himself. This should be one cracking night of small stakes poker, with beer aflowing
. Away from the tourny the unfortunate departees will probably get to grips in a 10p/10p Dealers choice cash game ……… (gets hard-on thinking about it
)
Get ya ass down to the Coachman people and have a superb game of poker in the friendliest atmosphere around!!!
Grosvenor Grand Prix
August 17, 2008
The time is coming for that fantastic value comp, that sees the qualifiers only comp, due to take place in October, qualifiers will be on Blue Sq or at your local Grosvenor. AND…… They are adding £25,000, woo hoo I hear you shout. A pot limit Hold’em deepstack comp with great added value!!! And yes the Final will take place at Walsall’s Grosvenor (remember them, they used to advertise online all the time, and hold decent tournies) And mainly the pioneers of all the added fees (reg fees, entry fees, both etc).
This competition will be no different, another pioneering charge is set to take place, some of you may have read the article that was written on here http://www.ukpokerinfo.co.uk/how-thick-do-they-think-poker-players-are-100/ If you remember the charge deducted from the prize pool was 10% but this was for a freezeout, the warning was that soon they will be deducting from rebuys. Well here you have it, the only way to qualify for this comp is to qualify, and they are all rebuy events, WITH NO REG FEE LOL but 5% of the total pool will be raked!!!!
The next warning is that soon this percentage will increase, and a hidden charge will take over in a cardroom near you. When questioned on the blonde poker forum here http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=36072.0 Jonathon Raab aka AlrightJack who is the mastermind behind all the great comps Grosvenor/Blue Sq put on stated, when questioned about the fee ”In the USA they often rake the prize pool and charge a fee, not to mention the almost obligatory dealer bonus. Lovely little comps though…”
Yes Jonathon, but if this is the way forward, then soon 30% will be taken from the pool and the dealers wedge will be kept back too.
I just hope that the players that read here are intelligent enough to know where this is leading….don’t let it happen guys and gals.
Review of the Gala Bristol Harbourside Casino and Card Room
August 16, 2008
Review of the Gala Bristol Harbourside Casino and Card Room
The Casino is located on a new development in the recently regenerated Harbourside area of Bristol. A multi-storey garage situated next to the Casino provides ample and secure parking with a lift directly to the casino lobby and complimentary parking available on validation within the casino.
The formalities of joining the Casino where expedited quickly and professionally and currently Gala casino’s are offering a free £10 bet which was gratefully received and resulted in dinner being paid for when my bet on red hit on the roulette wheel!
Dinner was an emmental and bacon burger ordered from the bar and washed down with a complimentary soft drink, the burger was of the highest standard and reasonably priced at £5.25. A brief look in the Casino restaurant revealed a modern stylish eating area with an interesting and reasonable priced menu.
Registration for the Thursday night £10 freeze out was quick and painless and the card room stylishly outfitted and a pleasure to play in. The dealers where friendly, competent and attentive and the overall standard of play was high for a £10 game, the structure I was perfectly acceptable for a midweek low cost buy-in with plenty of play in the first 4 levels.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would encourage anyone to pay a visit to this well appointed modern casino.
Ladbrokes Migrating?
August 15, 2008
It has been recently announced that Ladbrokes will be switching networks along with a few other companies, the recipiants of Ladbrokes players will be Microgaming Network. I feel this is a strange move as Ladbrokes platform at the moment is just right. However with the announcements from the CEO that they wish to break into the US Market, and the opening of Asia’s online scene, they seem to be stepping up a gear. Unibet is also switching to microgaming for their casino platform. Looks like there will be a nice influx of new players onto sites such as 32red.
There will also be a poker tournament from the 19th to 21st September called the Unibet Open Milan Tournament with a guaranteed prize of €450,000
See yawl there!
Dealer Championships
August 14, 2008
Usually the DealerEM Championship starts off an EPT Tour, and has been held in places such as Barcelona, or Vienna etc, but this years venue of choice is in the docklands off Newcastle :). Yes, you heard it right, this year it is to be held at Aspers Newcastle. It will be held on the 8th to 10th of September and open to any casino employee, entry is €100 or £80 and is sponsored by Novomatic, Party Poker and CARD and the registration process is here http://www.dealerem.com/index.php?registration
So, if you are in the business and fancy pitting your poker skills against the cream of Europes dealers, and also a mega piss up, get ones ass down to Newcastle and don’t miss this. The worst thing you can do is organise a poker event for these dates as it is not to be missed. Shame I didn’t take my own advice, as dickhead here has had a poker game organized for this date for over 2 months now grrrrrrrrrrr
DTD ANNIVERSARY
August 12, 2008
A five day extravaganza has been announced at Dusk Till Dawn to celebrate their one year anniversary. Starting on the 3rd of December, the first comp will be a £50 satellite into the £1000 main event. The main event itself starts on the 4th of December and lasts for 4 days. Please see footnote.
The Friday sees a £30 turbo satellite into the £300 comp which starts later in the day and will last 2 days
The Saturday is a £200 Freezeout that will last 2 days.
Sunday will be the final of the £200 and the final of the Main Event, also there will be a £100 freezeout and wait for it, A SEVEN CARD STUD LIMIT EVENT £150 Freezeout 5000 pts 40 min clock. Details here
http://dusktilldawnpoker.com/newsitem.php?id=490
nb. OK I am the first to come to the defense of DTD but something concerns me here. I love the 20,000pts and 120 min clock. But personally i feel that something is ballsed up here. It states that there is 5 levels a day (10 hours play, fair enough) for 4 days. Conservatively I would say that 100 runners should be expected minimum. That would be 2,000,000 chips in play minimum. They are expecting the comp to finish at level 19. Level 19 btw is 10000/20000 with a runner of 2000, a very generous chip average heads up is 20x the bb however this will be 50 x the Big blind. So the 40 hours of poker will still leave plenty of play. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this structure, but cannot see it finishing in time?? Hope I am proved wrong, but what happens if 300 people turn up to play, the last day could see a chop 3 tables out?? That is some competition!!! I will inform you of the inevitable online sats into this.
Ladbrokes Rumours
August 7, 2008
After their quarterly results this year pre-tax profits fell from £154.400,000 to £126.700,000, and the recent economic situation in the UK and US. The Managing Director John O’Reilly hinted yesterday that they may enter the US Market. They had already put in place an entry into the poker and betting arena of the United States, but were hit along with most by the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act. There are some companies that have ignored the UIGEA, despite threats of legal action, fines and closure. However there is a huge potential market waiting to be exploited and looks like some Companies are prepared to risk chancing entering the US market as the reward is too high.

Under One Roof
August 5, 2008
Betfair have announced that all the tournaments at this years World Series Of Poker Europe will take place all under one roof, as opposed to last year which was held at four seperate venues. This will mean that all the tournament players wont be as confused as before as they know which venue to travel too.
The tournaments will be held at the Empire in Leicester Square, as I haven’t been there as of yet I don’t know what their capacity is? I would be grateful if any readers can confirm the maximum number of players this venue can handle.
What I do know, is that the side games and cash games will be held around the clock at the Sportsman and the Fifty Club, IMO this may backfire a little as other venues, apart from the LCI clubs could be hosting the larger cash games (a serious revenue for casinos). The Vic and the Loose Cannon Club (which will be holding the Virgin Festival at the same time) could also be in for some mega action.
The tournament schedule is as folows:
September 19th , 2008 - Event #1 - £1,500 – No-Limit Hold’em Day 1A (3-day event)
September 22nd , 2008 - Event #2 - £2,500 – H.O.R.S.E. (3-day event)
September 24th , 2008 - Event #3 - £5,000 – Pot Limit Omaha (2-day event)
September 27th , 2008 - Event #4 - £10,000 – World Championship No-Limit Hold’em (6-day event)
Some of the bigger names that are flying in may even use this event as an excuse to sample the delights of Nottingham?
321 @ DTD
August 2, 2008
The 321 weekend at Dusk till Dawn has started once again. The main event, the £300 had all the usual suspects, with a top quality line up as follows
| PLAYER (Total: 116) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
|
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
As you can see the field is top class, and not a better £300 freezeout will you see in this country. Following this weeks announcement from Mr Yong, it was debated how the poker community would receive the changes. They are not effective until next week, but the turnout of 116 players indicates that the flack that could have been expected, hasn’t done any damage. Tommorows £200 Freezeout however is in direct competition with, with Stoke Circus’s £100 Freezeout with £2000 added (and using DTD’s structure), so only the new dusk will tell the story, but certainly poker players have a decent choice this weekend. Best of luck whichever venue you decide to play! I know which venue I would like to play, but work commitments keep me from playing either ![]()
Poker in the Park
August 1, 2008
Not phonetically btw!!
The place to be in August on the weekend of the 15th and 16th is Leicester Square in Central London. The extravaganza will be in association with PKR and Bluff Magazine Europe. An expected 25,000 poker enthusiasts will descend to Leicester Square for what is billed as Europes largest Poker Show.
There will be a series of lectures by some of the best known players in Europe, stalls which will be selling books, merchandise and paraphernalia. It is free to attend, and also free poker tournaments will be offered every hour. In two locations, PKR Poker Dome and The Fox Club Area.
Also if you there is an Area set aside for Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker, god knows what will go on in there??? Apart from this will be where the lectures will be held.
Lectures will be given by the likes of Marc Goodwin, Paul Jackson, Liv Boeree, Neil Channing, Nik Persaud, Dave Ulliott, Tony Holden, Ian Frazer and Montel Williams amongst others.
I am feeling the need to attend this

Rob Yongs Home Game
July 31, 2008
Many moons ago, pre Dusk till Dawn, Rob Yong used to have a star studded home game. It was a regular feature on the old Blonde Forum. There were many house hold (poker players) that always played this event. When DTD opened, this game stopped…….well fret no more, it is back on, and there are satellites in the club and online to join in this game.
The game itself will be a 9 handed Single table tournament, with a buy-in of £1000, there will be a £50 freezeout satellite on Sunday 31st August @ 5pm.
The main game will be held on the TV table at DTD on the 5th September. It is an invite only event apart from the two seats, and those lucky winners will be playing the cream of the crop in full view of the club, the rumours are it may be a regular feature. Best of luck to all that take part in the revamped Yongstas Home game!
A Big Change At DTD
July 29, 2008
Rob Yong , the owner and brainchild has made public a statement of his thoughts and now actions leading to a big change at Dusk till Dawn, if you frequent the Poker Mecca then please keep reading.
After a chat with his mom this weekend, she asked why he didn’t go to DTD anymore? He must have dwelled seriously on this question and has now gone back to the basic principle of why DTD opened in the first place.
DTD was originally opened after Himself and Nick Whitten got turned away from a local comp due to their local rules. Whilst looking for a game on their way back they came up with the original concept of the now called Dusk Till Dawn.
It was never supposed to be a business, it was a place where he could socialise with his friends, entertain business partners and have a decent game of poker when he wanted. Recently Rob has not been into the club very often, and the emphasis was leaning more and more to the business side. To his credit he has taken a step back and reassesed the situation, and now has taken steps back to achieve his original goal.
Dusk Till Dawn will now be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!! Rebuys are a thing of the past, all comps will be freeze outs. This will start from 4th August 2008.
Hopefully the place will now start buzzing again as the atmosphere IMO had started to get a little flat, the locals were now spreading their attendance over 7 days, by condensing the fields should now get back to how they were. His statement can be read here. ….. Rob Yong’s Press Release
Fantastic decision IMO but some of the staff seem very downhearted by the looks of facebook comments, only time will tell
VALUE!!
July 27, 2008
7pm Circus Casino Stoke
3rd August, Sunday
£100 Freezeout
The Casino is adding £2000 to the prize pool regardless of runners. This means the value is tremendous. A very well done To Andy Gray (Blazing Saddler) for getting this added value to their anniversery competition. The field should be well over 100 players, I hope it is at capacity as added money to a prize pool is few and far betweens cardrooms. On top of this every first Sunday in the month the Circus in Stoke add £1000 to their regular £100 freezeout!!!
Many places offer a guarantee, but casinos aren’t stupid, some places even have a guarantee with the condition of reaching X amount of players, they very rarely have to add anything so is poor value, especially if you are paying reg fees and entry fees etc. Many moons ago, these fees did not exist and casinos were booming, as it brought players through the door for the house games. So I think personally there should be plenty of these comps with added money, as the casinos are running an added comp with the players money anyway. Say for instance £1000 is added for a £100 FO, and 100 players fork up the £100 +£10 the reg fees = £1000 anyway. It is nice to see these comps and hope they bloom ……… advice to casino cardrooms …….stay away from guaranteed comps and add value every now and then!!!
You can register online at circuspoker.com to guarantee a seat, I stress, this is the best value game in the Midlands at the moment, be there or be square!!!!

666
July 9, 2008
Who says Poker is the Devils game? 666 Is the number of entrants who will be paid in this years Main Event at the World series of Poker.
6844 runners entered, the second highest entry ever was whittled down from the 4 day 1’s down to 2852 runners. Day 2a filtered through 465 compared to 459 last year.
So Day 2b players will be fighting tooth and nail for the chance to be in a final that won’t happen until November this year!!! Leaving the top 9 millionaires a chance to earn a little extra on the side from all the Hype and expected sponsorship offers.
On a side note, this year saw the introduction of a “No excessive celebrating” rule, allegedly brought in due to a particular Rain Khan’s exploits last year, when he went through day 3 as chip leader, closely followed by the Great Dane himself, Gus Hanson. Still a lot of pro’s this year from day 2a and also a good British showing …………. heres hoping!!!!!!!

Sorry to keep harping on
July 8, 2008
I may be bias, but at the moment there is nothing to compete with Dusk Till Dawn, and the innovative festivals they come up with. OK The Norweigen Open was a hired event by expekt.com and the Virgin Festival, is of course Virgins baby. But Dusk till Dawn have a few aces up their sleeve too.
July is the month for their mini fextival, followed by another 321 weekend at the start of August, but the jewel in the crown (in my opinion) is the August Bank Holiday Deepstack festival. This baby comprises of
Event 1:
Thursday 21st 3pm A £100 scalp comp, which I feel is the best one I have seen. £75 goes towards the prize pool and £25 for each scalp (the aggressors will love this baby
7.30pm a £50 Satellite to the main event 3000pts 24 min clock
