Congratulations To David La Ronde EPO Winner!
After three days of a playing a fantastic field, the inaugural honours goto an Englishman Mr David La Ronde, this isn’t La Ronde’s first decent cash either. He was runner up to Sam Trickett in last years GUKPT in Luton for a tasty sum of £62k. This event is somehow more prestigious IMO as it is the first ever English Poker Open and I am glad an Englishman won it, I bet he is too as at the end of the final hand he immediately made a phone call to someone and seemed to be very emotional, as he exclaimed “Over £200 Grand!!”.
5 of the nine finalists were from the UK, along with a Frenchman, a Canadian and two other Scandies, It was heads up between David La Ronde and Swede, Micheal Tureniec who went into the final with a substantial chip lead. The last hand was rather bizarre (well considering the amount of money involved anyway) pre flop Michael pushed all-in with K 10 and was called by La Ronde’s Ace 7, no improvement and the Ace held much to La Ronde’s relief!!

There were two other side events with an EPO Trophy, the £500 and the £250, it was nice to see Liam Flood on the final table of the £500, full result here;

On a personal level, I enjoyed the £250 as I had some friends from Bearwood playing in fact 3 out of 5 Pikeys, and another railing to the end. Joe Clarke bust out 19th but Andy “Gavles” Lytras and Pav “Show’em” Sandhu both reached the final. Pav after nursing a short stack 18 out eventually was the first casualty of the final for £535. When it was 6 out they did a deal, all taking £3000 and then they played for the other £6k. It wasn’t to be for Andy but still a nice £3k payday before his Vegas trip!!

Got something to say?

Will David La R ever play in Rileys ever again? I hope so as UK poker is great and we need to spread the experience of good results to the great unwashed poker faithful. nias
