London’s Virgin Festival
August 29, 2008
The time is fast approaching the next fantastic Virgin Festival, after the exceptional atmosphere at all previous venues (Broadway, Aspers and DTD), Virgin will be taking the experience down south in the Capital.
Loose Cannons will be holding the prestigious, fun competition, that always sees Mr Branson add a little extra something by way of bad beat jackpots, bounties, etc. All the red crew will be there for heads up challenges, drinking contests and wii bowling as per usual. Qualification is via online only and the seats worth is €150, Virgin will be adding £5000 to the main prize pool. I am sure the Loose Cannon Club will be having a live satellite (which is the hosts ty) soon, and remember that they always do a golden ticket, whereby a players guest will be entered into a draw for a freeroll.
There are many events at exactly the same time 27th/28th September, but we hope that this event will be well supported as it deserves to last, even if their software is crap, the thoughts there ![]()
Brian Townsend
August 28, 2008
Brian Townsend is at the centre of a multi account scandal at Pokerstars and FullTilt. The online megastar could usually be seen at the highest stake HORSE or Omaha on both sites, under aba20 on stars or more noticeably Sbrugby on Fulltilt and has been conspicuous by his abscence. It seems he has admitted playing under the name of MakersMark66 on Stars and Stellarnebula on Tilt. The reason he gave was that his bankroll has took a bit of a pounding, and he has dropped stakes. Rather than faceing ridicule from the vicious rail, he changed his name so that he was starting afresh annonymously.
Full Tilt has revoked his “Red Pro” Status for 6 months, but it is unclear how Stars are dealing with it. Brian Townsend has apologised for this act and will answer any questions on 2+2 forum or cardrunners. He has also pledged to give $25k to charity as way of an apology??? huh??
Personally, although a breach of the rules, I find it strange that some other “Red Pros” are allowed/or use two different names on FT without any comeback, yet Townsend gets made the example of. Either the top pros that generate the action that most enjoy watching should either be allowed 2 accounts or no one should be allowed 2 accounts? It may be nice if they could actually play poker, without all the crap from the rail, especially if they are grinding it out at lower levels to build a bankroll. Just My Opinion.
World Firefighters Games
August 27, 2008
There has been lots of talk on all forums, whether poker is a sport or should it be included in the Olympics etc, well this week sees the fourth World Firefighters Games. Previously held in Las Vegas, Sheffield and New Zealand, this weeks games is underway in Liverpool. Great Britain is being represented by Lancashire Fire Service, the events include swimming, athletics, football, table tennis, fishing and POKER. The games are held every two years with the highlight of the event being the toughest Firefighter alive. Our representitive in this event is Alan Metcalfe, who will be starting his jaunt with a half marathon (with a badly sprained ankle!!)
Best of Luck GB!!!!

A Little Light
August 26, 2008
With the recent economic effect in Casinos, with closures, redundancies and cut backs, the future looks bleaker and bleaker. Just take a look at any gaming shares or related shares. Grosvenor however had a tiny bit of luck today. They had appealed via a Duties tribunal over a Gaming Machine Tax and the inconsistency with European Rules. They had been declaring a VAT for some machines that were exempt from VAT since 2003. They appealed for the over payment in 2005 and today were appeased a sum of upto £25,000,000. The second stage of litigation will take place later this year. This may not just be Grosvenors/Rank, others may be going down the same route if Ranks claims are successful.
DTD FESSIE ROUND UP
August 25, 2008
It looked like the main event was going to be a washout, with only 46 players with 2 minutes to go, however Bank Holiday Traffic was accredited as to the reason of the low turnout. This may have been correct as by the end of level 2 there was a creditable 91 runners for the scheduled 4 day event. Although 91 was not a bad number for a weekday afternoon comp, it was clear that this would be a 3 -dayer maximum. I have to say that this ME was extremely well run and the field was excellent, with all the regular UK circuit players. However it seemed to me that a fish was having the run of his life in this one, the eventual winner could not put a foot wrong, suckout city and big stack bully all fell into place with the greatest of timing. The outcome was as follows;
PLACE PLAYER PRIZE
1 Andrew Tuxworth £15,925
2 Paul Murphy £9,555
3 Przemek Rusin £6,370
4 John Sadler £4,095
5 Paul Gourlay £3,185
6 Richard Hawes £2,275
7 Nichiei Hicks £1,820
8 Adam Goulding £1,365
9 Darren Chadwick £910
The £300 had a similar field as most knockoutees insta bought in for this event ;
PLACE PLAYER PRIZE
1 James Buckley £9,660
2 Tony Salmon £5,796
3 Barrie Sherbert £3,864
4 Neil Blatchly £2,484
5 Fredrik Mikaelsson £1,932
6 Julian Thew £1,380
7 Andrew Oflaherty £1,104
8 Jeff Sharpe £828
9 Lars Arne Kapsto Foss £552
The £100 Double Chance saw the field rise into 3 figures with the results as follows;
PLACE PLAYER PRIZE
1 Oneib Saeed £3,605
2 Ben Ingram £2,163
3 David Noble £1,442
4 Neil Robinson £927
5 Raymond Brown £670
6 Will Mitchell £515
7 John Shaw £361
8 Stephen Jennison £258
9 Anon £206
10 Simon Lee £155
The curious thing was the £200 PL Omaha comp however, as at the start there was only 5 runners, the organizers felt it appropriate to cancel this tournament and held a 60+ field for a £30 Scalp tourny.
A few more PLO players came in and on seeing the PLO comp had been cancelled asked for a £200 PLO one hand flip over, winner takes all (I presume suggested by James Dempsey (Royal Flush aka the Flip King))
9 players stumped up the £200 to play this !!!! Including, Trevor Reardon, Simon Nowab, James Dempsey, Rich Offless, Julian Thew, and Lawrence Gosney (I think) amongst others.
Commentated by Simon Trumper this was the most remarkable hand of the night.
From what I saw this is how it played, first they would see a flop and turn 2 cards, the turn would be dealt, and they would expose another card, then the river and they would finally turn their last card over.
Flop Came
4 7 7 rainbow
Trevor Reardon had K 4
Simon Nowab had A 4
RichEO had Q 8
The rest had rags and only these were really involved.
Turn was an 8
Trevor Reardon showed a rag
Simon Nowab showed a 7 (for 7’s over 4’s) Big Cheer
RichEO shows an 8 (for 8’s over 7’s) Bigger Cheer
Simon slumps
River was a K
Trevor shows another king (for kings over) Huge Cheers
Simon says Gimme quads baby doll and turns over his one outer 7 to a roar of laughter
Doesn’t matter what RichEO had as he was drawing dead.
£1800 in the sky rocket for the DTD man Simon Nowab
What a hand!!!!!!!!
The Coachman Results
August 23, 2008
The battle in Northwich took place last night, and apparently the beer flowed that much, that everyone is taking a day to recover. I am presuming the night was a great success as always, and the only news so far that i have, is that the hot favourite Tom (Billyboy) Butlin exited first when his aces got cracked by kings ……….. only time will tell, when the mist settles what the actual outcome of this superb bank holiday comp. Just wish I could have made it
, but then if i had of, i am sure i would still be recovering myself ![]()
The Poker Prince
August 22, 2008
Well, what can I say about Scotty Nguyens display at the final of the $50k HORSE competition at the WSOP?
From someone who enjoyed the Poker Princes exploits, I find this kind of behaviour at a poker table, an absolute disgrace. In no way was the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy ever in the mind of Scotty Baby, it just couldn’y have been. Chip Reese would be turning in his grave if he ever saw the debarcle. The way he spoke to the dealer, valets, TD and opponents on the table, should have seen him with the minimum of at least 3 time penalties, to be frank he should have been disqualified IMO.
Appearing to soft play Lingren to gang up on DeMichele, showing cards to spectators, ungentlemanly behaviour, F-Bombs, the list goes on. He acts drunk …. trust me he isn’t. See for yourself and tell me what you think at www.ukpokerlife.co.uk
OH and by the way Layne Flack does himself no favours at all!!
Bank Holiday Comps
August 21, 2008
So where will you be this August Bank Holiday? For those of the pro’s not whisking themselves down to Northwich for The Coachman Extravaganza (piss up), there is a choice of 3 circuit events to get your teeth into. There is a strange common denominator between these three, that the main event Buy-in is £500, which seems to indicate that poker rooms are beginning to understand that poker players pockets are not as deep as casino managers think. The three venues to choose from are Dusk Till Dawn Deepstack Festival, *couch* Gutshot Series of Poker, and Brightons 2008 Beach Break Festival.
DTD’s deepstack fessie started this afternoon with £100 Scalp tournie, as numbers were/are not known as the fessie players will be spread out, which venue will see the biggest field. The Thursday afternoon comp started at DTD with 89 runners, so the figures over the next couple of days will tell a story.
Best of Luck whichever venue you decide to frequent.
Student Comp
August 20, 2008
OK you miserable tax draining piss heads, Dusk till Dawn is now catering for your c-bet, pot odds, maths compulsion game, on a Friday night. It has been announced that starting from the 26th September that all you studious folks can play in a £20 Freezeout (BUT YOU MUST PROVE YOUR STUDENT STATUS), they are even offering 15% off all food and drink (now there’s an incentive to play) DTD will also be providing student only £10 STT’s.
This comp will not effect the regular £75 Freezeout that is on offer to the “non studious/older generation”
So will you wipe out or increase that student loan, only time will tell …….. best of luck!!
Poker Trillion?
August 19, 2008
OK anyone know what the fcuk is going here? The talk on all the forums was the press release yesterday from Poker Trillion and the fact that they have succeeded in crippling Boss’s Malta operation. Every poker forum has been hit with this press release, but none state why this action has taken place? Players on the Boss network have been steadily withdrawing their funds due to this press release. But the fact of the matter is yet to be announced. All we know for certain is that Boss repeatedly warned Trillion for breaking the terms of their contract, then they booted them out as they did not comply with Boss’s Terms and conditions. So WTF is going on?? Boss has been busy replying to threads that have released Trillion statement with their own. Both are here;
Trillions Press Release
POKERTRILLION.com Successful in its Application to Seize Boss Media Servers in Malta
Malta August 18, 2008 –The online poker site POKERTRILLION.com has announced that on 18th August 2008 at the First Hall Civil Court, Malta (Court record and Complaint Number 755-0, Judge Gino Camilleri issued a judgement authorising Trillion Ltd to enforce seizure of the Boss Media Malta Limited and Boss Media AB servers, and that these servers cease being used for any commercial activity as from 18th September 2008 with Boss Media not being allowed to appeal the court’s decision any further. This judgement, which relates to Trillion Limited’s multi-million Euro law suit for breach of contract against Boss Media AB and their associated companies, comes off the back of a number of successful applications made to the courts in Malta by Trillion Ltd. POKERTRILLION.com C.E.O Andy Pyrah explains, “Today’s decision will in effect bring down Boss Media’s operation in their licensed jurisdiction of Malta on September 18, and any partner still on the Boss (IPN) Poker Network at this stage will see their service closed down too”.
The judge further ordered that the cosignatory which is now responsible for the equipment also provides full accounts of the revenues being generated from this equipment.
Pyrah comments further, “It should also be noted that despite appeals from Boss Media, we’ve been successful in every one of our applications that we’ve filed with the courts in Malta and this includes having our initial garnishee order increased from €5million to €20million earlier this month, this in turn means that there is now a €20million freezing order on all Boss Media’s assets within this jurisdiction, and in accordance with European law we will be applying for this to be executed all over Europe”.

Boss Media assures player funds and no disruption in services
In relation to the statements made by Poker Trillion August 18 (“Trillion Limited -v- Boss Media Malta Poker Limited and Boss Media AB”), Boss Media has issued the following statement.Poker Trillion’s recent comments are a reckless attempt to support a legal action that is without merit and initiated as retribution for their dismissal from the Boss Media network. To be clear, player funds are not affected by the current proceedings. All players’ funds are held separately under the control of the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority and cannot be seized by any court.
Poker Trillion is a former customer of Boss Media who was terminated because of rake back violations. They have since then repeatedly tried to disrupt the Boss Media business through the dissemination of groundless rumors. In April 2008 Poker Trillion alleged in a press release a claim that among other things, Boss Media player funds were frozen. The allegations were false but typical of the type of tactics employed by Poker Trillion.
While there has been no hearing on the merits of the Poker Trillion suit, there have been preliminary hearings on the matter. Boss Media has assured that adequate security is provided in Malta in the event of an award of damages against it which we believe to be unlikely.
Boss Media is currently exploring various legal options regarding our Maltese assets and can assure that Boss Media has the requisite assets in place to ensure that our business will continue to operate with the highest standards. In the extremely unlikely event that any Malta operations would be affected, Boss Media have high-performance back-up systems in place to ensure continued service to all our customers and their players.
The Devilneck Challenge
August 18, 2008
The only place to be this Bank Holiday Friday (the 22nd) Is the Coachman Pub, in Northwich, hosted by the the one and only Squirmy. Originally UKPL was supposed to be fronting a team to challenge the Northwich regulars, headed by the infamous (around Northwich anyway) Devilneck. Demand to get in on this far exceeded expectation, and nearly every contributing member of UKPL wanted in on the action, to the extremes that the team plan has been waylaid, and it is now everyman for himself. This should be one cracking night of small stakes poker, with beer aflowing
. Away from the tourny the unfortunate departees will probably get to grips in a 10p/10p Dealers choice cash game ……… (gets hard-on thinking about it
)
Get ya ass down to the Coachman people and have a superb game of poker in the friendliest atmosphere around!!!
Grosvenor Grand Prix
August 17, 2008
The time is coming for that fantastic value comp, that sees the qualifiers only comp, due to take place in October, qualifiers will be on Blue Sq or at your local Grosvenor. AND…… They are adding £25,000, woo hoo I hear you shout. A pot limit Hold’em deepstack comp with great added value!!! And yes the Final will take place at Walsall’s Grosvenor (remember them, they used to advertise online all the time, and hold decent tournies) And mainly the pioneers of all the added fees (reg fees, entry fees, both etc).
This competition will be no different, another pioneering charge is set to take place, some of you may have read the article that was written on here http://www.ukpokerinfo.co.uk/how-thick-do-they-think-poker-players-are-100/ If you remember the charge deducted from the prize pool was 10% but this was for a freezeout, the warning was that soon they will be deducting from rebuys. Well here you have it, the only way to qualify for this comp is to qualify, and they are all rebuy events, WITH NO REG FEE LOL but 5% of the total pool will be raked!!!!
The next warning is that soon this percentage will increase, and a hidden charge will take over in a cardroom near you. When questioned on the blonde poker forum here http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=36072.0 Jonathon Raab aka AlrightJack who is the mastermind behind all the great comps Grosvenor/Blue Sq put on stated, when questioned about the fee ”In the USA they often rake the prize pool and charge a fee, not to mention the almost obligatory dealer bonus. Lovely little comps though…”
Yes Jonathon, but if this is the way forward, then soon 30% will be taken from the pool and the dealers wedge will be kept back too.
I just hope that the players that read here are intelligent enough to know where this is leading….don’t let it happen guys and gals.
Review of the Gala Bristol Harbourside Casino and Card Room
August 16, 2008
Review of the Gala Bristol Harbourside Casino and Card Room
The Casino is located on a new development in the recently regenerated Harbourside area of Bristol. A multi-storey garage situated next to the Casino provides ample and secure parking with a lift directly to the casino lobby and complimentary parking available on validation within the casino.
The formalities of joining the Casino where expedited quickly and professionally and currently Gala casino’s are offering a free £10 bet which was gratefully received and resulted in dinner being paid for when my bet on red hit on the roulette wheel!
Dinner was an emmental and bacon burger ordered from the bar and washed down with a complimentary soft drink, the burger was of the highest standard and reasonably priced at £5.25. A brief look in the Casino restaurant revealed a modern stylish eating area with an interesting and reasonable priced menu.
Registration for the Thursday night £10 freeze out was quick and painless and the card room stylishly outfitted and a pleasure to play in. The dealers where friendly, competent and attentive and the overall standard of play was high for a £10 game, the structure I was perfectly acceptable for a midweek low cost buy-in with plenty of play in the first 4 levels.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I would encourage anyone to pay a visit to this well appointed modern casino.
Ladbrokes Migrating?
August 15, 2008
It has been recently announced that Ladbrokes will be switching networks along with a few other companies, the recipiants of Ladbrokes players will be Microgaming Network. I feel this is a strange move as Ladbrokes platform at the moment is just right. However with the announcements from the CEO that they wish to break into the US Market, and the opening of Asia’s online scene, they seem to be stepping up a gear. Unibet is also switching to microgaming for their casino platform. Looks like there will be a nice influx of new players onto sites such as 32red.
There will also be a poker tournament from the 19th to 21st September called the Unibet Open Milan Tournament with a guaranteed prize of €450,000
See yawl there!
Dealer Championships
August 14, 2008
Usually the DealerEM Championship starts off an EPT Tour, and has been held in places such as Barcelona, or Vienna etc, but this years venue of choice is in the docklands off Newcastle :). Yes, you heard it right, this year it is to be held at Aspers Newcastle. It will be held on the 8th to 10th of September and open to any casino employee, entry is €100 or £80 and is sponsored by Novomatic, Party Poker and CARD and the registration process is here http://www.dealerem.com/index.php?registration
So, if you are in the business and fancy pitting your poker skills against the cream of Europes dealers, and also a mega piss up, get ones ass down to Newcastle and don’t miss this. The worst thing you can do is organise a poker event for these dates as it is not to be missed. Shame I didn’t take my own advice, as dickhead here has had a poker game organized for this date for over 2 months now grrrrrrrrrrr
Bearwood Trial
August 13, 2008
OK so i thought I would experiment with a few different games in a competition format, The game itself was 4000 pts + 2000pt lifeline, so a total of 6000pts on a 30 minute clock. The idea is that this is a cheap way to introduce players into dealers choice, therefore the games allowed were all flop games and called on the button these included : Hold’em, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple, Irish, Omaha and Super Hold’em. Decided to play myself, and let Sarah have a bash at dealing them (purely to see how it played you understand
) Game worked a treat to be honest and sure it will take off on Wednesdays. The Winner was Norman, runner up Alan C, I came a miserable 4th after i called Crazy Pineapple with Q J 10, flop came 3 Q J (rainbow) chucked my 10 and hit a Queen on the turn, raised, was re-raised and pushed, against Adrian Everton. He turned over his pair of threes and hit his one outer 3 on the river grrrrrrrrrrrrr bye bye me.
Thinking of running a series of games BSOP ( Bearwood Series of Poker) in the near future, watch this space!!
DTD ANNIVERSARY
August 12, 2008
A five day extravaganza has been announced at Dusk Till Dawn to celebrate their one year anniversary. Starting on the 3rd of December, the first comp will be a £50 satellite into the £1000 main event. The main event itself starts on the 4th of December and lasts for 4 days. Please see footnote.
The Friday sees a £30 turbo satellite into the £300 comp which starts later in the day and will last 2 days
The Saturday is a £200 Freezeout that will last 2 days.
Sunday will be the final of the £200 and the final of the Main Event, also there will be a £100 freezeout and wait for it, A SEVEN CARD STUD LIMIT EVENT £150 Freezeout 5000 pts 40 min clock. Details here
http://dusktilldawnpoker.com/newsitem.php?id=490
nb. OK I am the first to come to the defense of DTD but something concerns me here. I love the 20,000pts and 120 min clock. But personally i feel that something is ballsed up here. It states that there is 5 levels a day (10 hours play, fair enough) for 4 days. Conservatively I would say that 100 runners should be expected minimum. That would be 2,000,000 chips in play minimum. They are expecting the comp to finish at level 19. Level 19 btw is 10000/20000 with a runner of 2000, a very generous chip average heads up is 20x the bb however this will be 50 x the Big blind. So the 40 hours of poker will still leave plenty of play. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this structure, but cannot see it finishing in time?? Hope I am proved wrong, but what happens if 300 people turn up to play, the last day could see a chop 3 tables out?? That is some competition!!! I will inform you of the inevitable online sats into this.
GUKPT Result
August 11, 2008
Sam Trickett continues his assault on the poker world this year, after his remarkable cash in the $5k event at the WSOP, he hit the third day of the GUKPT as massive chip leader with 12 players left.
Final 12 Man Chip Counts
Sam Trickett 942,000
David La Ronde 521,000
James Mitchell 375,000
Martin Jarvis 338,000
Andreas Milhail 325,000
Paul Noury 282,500
Martin Green 222,000
Wayne Mardle 220,000
Paul Rigg 200,500
Iwan Jones 138,000
Stuart Rutter 125,000
Peter Arrigoni 88,000
This was the final days chip count, and the result was as follows
4th…..£30,100…..Martin Jarvis
5th…..£23,500…..Martin Green
6th…..£17,850…..Peter Arrigoni
7th…..£14,100…..Wayne Mardle
8th…..£11,300…..Stuart Rutter
9th…..£8,450…..Andreas Mihail
10th…..£5,650…..Paul Noury
11th…..£3,750…..Iwan Jones
12th…..£3,750…..Paul Rigg
3 players out they decided to chop it for £60k each and play for the title and £35k
James Mitchell exited 3rd and everyone settled down for an epic heads up battle, which was not to be as it lasted one hand. David La Ronde was the recipiant of the unfortunate hand that gave Sam Trickett the Extra £35k and the title of GUKPT champion Luton. Big congratulations to him, and i don’t think it will be the last we hear of him this year, lets just hope he can keep his cool at some of these venues and doesn’t twat anymore doormen
