Harrahs Interactive Entertainment Enters UK
Harrahs Interactive Entertainment (HIE) has entered the UK online gaming market, via the UK’s second largest online gaming site. 888 Holdings PLC will be the launchpad for a possible reintroduction into the US online gaming scene if Harrah’s is successful in lobbying Congress to allow licensed gambling operators to accept online wagers in the United States.
888’s independent B2B division, Dragonfish will provide poker and casino services to Harrah’s in “a multimillion dollar” deal and saw shares rise 14% after the news broke. 888 Holdings will offer support services and payment software for Harrah’s WSOP and Caesars Casino brands in the U.K.
Mitch Garber, CEO of Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, stated
As we develop and roll out our interactive strategy, we have chosen to work with 888, primarily for their world-class technology, scalability, and a strong commitment to compliance, and responsible gaming.
It was expected/rumoured that Partypoker (which is now rearing its promotional head again) would be the choice of the HIE partnership, and the other possible contender was PokerStars but due to them already flouting the UIGEA (thanks Paul), this was deemed unlikely.
888 is also discussing additional business contracts with a “few other U.S. companies and not just in the field of casinos,” Levy said. He also anticipates making an acquisition for the business unit “in the coming quarter.”
