James Akenhead wins Full Tilt Poker Million VIII
James Akenhead concluded a thoroughly impressive year which saw him final table both WSOP and WSOPE main events with a win in the live Poker Million VIII final televised by SKY sports and sponsored by Fulltiltpoker.Com.
Akenhead earns himself $500,000 for first place after he beat Finnish pro Juha Helppi heads-up for the title. Taylor ‘Greenplastik’ Caby was the first player out when his 77 was no good V’s Dag Martin Mikkelsens K4 in a blind on blind confrontation.
Free roll qualifier Pete Vasiliou was next eliminated, shoving A9 into the jacks of Mikkelsen. Online qualifier Craig Wakenham was the next out the door, losing a race his 77 V’s Helppi’s A10, ace on the flop good enough for the flying Finn.
Luke Schwartz was out in 4th, getting unlucky in two spots, 1st for the chip lead against Akenhead when his 88 was no good AIPF against Akenheads AS7S, losing despite flopping a set as the flop came a spade draw that completed on the turn and the river ran out unpaired. Then against Mikkelsen when his A5 couldn’t hold V’s the Norweigan’s KQ
Mikkelsen is the next player eliminated hen his pocket three’s can’t out race the AQ of Helppi and this leaves Akenhead And Helppi to battle it out heads-up, Akenhead takes 1st place shortly afterwards when his pockets tens hold versus Helppi’s pocket sixes.
