Laak’s Interest
This years PartyPoker World Open V was won by Phil “Unabomber” Laak. He beat his girlfriend Jennifer Tilly, recently announced hall of famer Mike Sexton, UK’s super brat Luke _FullFlush1_ Schwartz, Bodo Sbrzesny, Andy Black and internet qualifier Jan Veit.
Remarkably it was Jan Veit that knocked out all but Andy Black, but it was Laak who showed his experience when it came to heads up play as he slowly gave the qualifier a lesson, I say slowly with my tongue in my cheek as heads up play actually only lasted two hands, Veit got all-in with A-4 on the first hand Laak made the call with A-8. An 8 on the flop was enough to give Laak an unrecoverable lead and a severely out-chipped Veit was forced to shove with J-7 the very next hand and Laak’s Queen High resulted in victory.
Final table payouts for the PartyPoker World Open V:
1. Phil Laak – $250,000
2. Jan Veit – $100,000
3. Luke Schwartz – $40,000
4. Bodo Sbrzesny – $30,000
5. Jennifer Tilly – $25,000
6. Mike Sexton – $20,000
7. Andy Black – $15,000
After the event it was a rush to get themselves all over to Ireland for the IPO, updates on that will follow here shortly…..
