Phil Hellmuth’s Grand Entrance
"No! you look really cool Phil!
Phil “Poker Brat” Hellmuth’s annual entrances to the WSOP main events have become something of a calendar item. yesterday on Day 1C of the 2009 main event he made undoubtedly his grandest entrance to date, with a supporting cast of 100 all decked out in roman costume Hellmuth swept into the Rio carried by four Roman Guards.
“I came here to conquer like Caesar!” said Hellmuth as he entered the Rio. “I’m here to win my 12th bracelet. The production also included 11 female gladiators in body paint, two male trumpeters, one male announcer and 50 female muses dressed in white togas.
Hellmuth who was one of roughly 2,000 runners on Day 1c of the 2009 Main Event began his entrance at 1:45 as he travelled all the way through the Rio hallways, as his ‘muses” dropped rose petals wherever Hellmuth walked, before he finally took his seat in the Amazon Room with his 11 gladiators standing beside him.
This is the four successive main event Hellmuth has staged a grand entrance, In 2007 he arrived dressed as a racing car driver (and famously smashed up the car in the Rio parking lot, See here) in 2008 he crassly arrived dressed as General Patton and at the 2008 ME Europe he arrived on a London Buss with 11 models in tow, yeah they didn’t put much thought into that one.
There has been some anticipation over the show piece after an ad was discovered by a member of the 2plus2 forum on the Las Vegas Craig’s list requesting models to appear beside a famous poker player known for his grand entrances. Most where surprised at the payments on offer, a measly $23 to debase yourself at the feet of Phil Hellmuth!
