Another British Poker WSOP Hope

Rory MatthewsYou may remember UKPI did an article on the 6max $5000 entry at the WSOP last year and followed Sam Trickett to the final table. Well this year another Brit is flying high in this very same event, in fact flying high is very appropriate as he is chip leader and already in the money, with 16 players left. The man in question is non other than Scott Rory Mathews, who plays under the alias of mafews

His biggest achievements so far, are 1st place in the 2006 Scottish Poker Championships for £23,960 which was a £1000 event, and a 2nd place last year in the GCBPT Edinburgh leg for £20,500. However the buy-in and number of entrants in event 56 certainly have put him to the test, but he has answered remarkably. With a field of 928 players and a total of $4,300,000 prize money, the bracelet winner stands to win just over $1, 000,000. Some say that this is the next pretigious event over the $50K HORSE and the Main Event!

Is this the year of the Scotts, can Andy Murray champion Wimbledon, can Rory Mathews take home a WSOP bracelet for the UK’s 4th this year??

Ukpokerinfo will be wishing him luck and keeping awake tonight, watching it transpire on PKR along with many others I suspect.

Next Event, the biggie $10k NLHE Main Event, how many runners this year do you reckon? We will find out very shortly, and my money is a non American to win it (Obviously unless there are 9 Yanks left at the final) And yet we will only find out in November FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
