The end of Inside Poker

IPI received a rather sad letter yesterday. Now it’s not as sad as some of the rather nasty red warning letters I’ve had in the past but it still spoilt my day a little.

I don’t know if I’m making a trendy poker player ‘faux pas’ here but the fact is that I’ve subscribed to InsidePoker for the last year or so. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t wait by the letterbox when my monthly mag is due and I take the strategy advice with a pinch of salt but it makes perfect bathroom reading if you ask me. Nothing too taxing, keeps you up to date with what’s going on in the world of poker and there are a couple of decent freerolls thrown in for good measure.

But after this month, InsidePoker is to be no more. The letter from the Magazine’s publisher, Dennis Publishing Ltd, simply states that as of the December issue due at the end of this month, the magazine will cease to be (cue Monty Python dead parrot joke).

If you have a subscription but haven’t received this letter then don’t worry, the letter also states that the remaining subscription will be converted to a PokerPlayer subscription, or you can contact customer services on 0844 844 0054 by 16/12/09 to arrange a full refund of any monies owing to you.

So it’s not really the end-of-the-world earth shattering news but it’s still a shame to see the end of an old poker friend of mine. Hopefully PokerPlayer will be an improvement on my current subscription but if not I suppose I’ll have to renew my twelve month deal with ‘Skinny and Wriggly’ ;-)

It’s tough out there for writers at the moment, I used to get a couple of offers every week, now its maybe one request a month.
