Why Does PKR Attract So Many Knobs?

UKPI Virtual BoobiesPKR.COM the 3D online poker room ran a first deposit offer last weekend that meant anybody depositing $25 or over would be eligible to a case of free beer! This of course finally saw my resistance against the 3D online poker world shattered by the convergence off two of my great loves, namely free stuff and Beer.

I’ve always viewed PKR as a bit frivolous and more of a diversion from serious online poker than a place to play and make money. PKR feels to me like the combination of the worse elements of both live and online poker, the pace of the live game minus the interaction and thus the solitude of the online game with none of the pace usually experienced. Also when playing on PKR one of the key elements of online poker is lost, the ability to multi table and thus make ourselves more money.

Having said all this, I have a guilty secret that I’ve always tried to keep from fellow online poker players; I actually really enjoy playing on PKR. I honestly do, I know I shouldn’t and it doesn’t feel like real online poker to me but actually more like playing a computer game but still, its great fun.

The thing is though, why is this site so full of knobs? Its annoying me because it’s beginning to ruin my guilty little 3D pleasure, I mean every time you get caught bluffing some arse hole has to say thank you, every time they suck out on you they laugh there avatars arse off at you, You have to ask the question, why is classless behaviour so prevalent on this site?

Personally I believe the answer’s quite straight forward, ‘it’s just so easy and the PKR players often don’t know any better’. It’s easy to say thank you with the intention of annoying an opponent because there’s a button that does just that for you, you don’t even have to type in TY. It’s easy to give an opponent a rub down or call them a chicken because there’s a button that does that for you as well, and if it wasn’t alright to do so then why would the site give players such easy way of niggling opponents? Just one click of the mouse is all it takes?

This standard of behaviour may or may not cross over from PKR in to the live game (where standards of behaviour can be pretty shoddy anyway) because the ever present threat of a thick ear might give some players brought up on PKR pause for thought or failing that a much needed attitude readjustment after they have received a slap from an irate opponent.

Its too easy to blame PKR for all this and I think its worth remembering that its the individuals responsibility to act like a decent human being, and just because the site gives you the ability to act like an arse, doesn’t mean you have to take it.

Sorry about another rant, I know I’m in danger of turning into the angriest man in poker

What about those folk that use card protectors on PKR, since you can buy them in the shop for your avatar ;)

Got something to say?
