WSOP Announce Poker Hall of Fame Inductee’s
Thursday saw the WSOP announce the top ten nominations to be 2009 inducted to the Poker Hall of Fame. The induction process has been dramatically restructured this year with all poker players now eligible to submit their vote via the WSOP website for a five week period May 26 – July 2.
The top ten nominees, in alphabetical order:
• Tom Dwan
• Barry Greenstein
• Dan Harrington
• Phil Ivey
• Tom McEvoy
• Men Nguyen
• Scotty Nguyen
• Daniel Negreanu
• Erik Seidel
• Mike Sexton
It’s difficult to decide whether the online voting system has much merit to it as this list only represent’s the players who received the most nominations. To reach the actual inductee the process now moves onto a vetting process by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council who then selects the final list of candidates for voting on by a thirty person panel which is made up of the fifteen living hall of fame members and fifteen media representatives.
The panel’s selection criteria are;
• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition;
• Played for high stakes;
• Played well, gaining the respect of players;
• Stood the test of time;
• Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.
The panel’s selection will be announced at a ceremony to be part of the final table events in November, WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack noted that 41 eligible people had received multiple nominations.
Other than the top ten they where;
Patrik Antonius, Humberto Brenes, Mike Caro, Norman Chad, Allen Cunningham, Ivan Demidov, Eric Drache, Annie Duke, John Duthie, Sam Farha, Chris Ferguson, Ted Forrest, Andy Glazer, Bertrand Grospellier, Gus Hansen, Jennifer Harman-Traniello, Jay Heimowitz, Rob Hollink, Jesper Hougaard, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Marcel Luske, Mike Matusow, Chris Moneymaker, Luca Pagano, Greg Raymer, Matt Savage and David Sklansky.
