Yet another UK tour announced!

UKPI Vicky CorenWe won’t try and give the full list of UK poker tours that have been announced in the last year or two because as soon as you start reeling off names such as the GUKPT, the GCBT & the BMPT, you just get a nagging urge to start singing YMCA, as well as starting to get a headache.

Last week though, Pokerstars announced it’s launch of the UKIPT (UK & Ireland Poker Tour). Kicking off in Galway on December 11th then, surprisingly! Spreading to various venues across the UK & Ireland. With buy-ins ranging from roughly £500 to £5,000 and with what appear to be some extremely attractive guarantees there promises to be some excellent action to be had.

At a time when there appear to be signs that the economic climate is finally starting to take a bite out of attendances at all the major live events up and down the country, it’s fair to say that this is a brave move by Stars. This said, it’s good to see a major site putting it’s backing behind live UK poker at a time like this and given their immense influence and marketing capabilities, if Pokerstars do manage to make a success of this tour then it’s not unfeasible for them to really dominate live poker in the UK for the foreseeable future, thus further enhancing their incredible brand within poker generally.

Only time will tell what will become of this latest tour, but as we see it, anything that gets Vicky Coren out and about in a casino near you, can only be a good thing no? ;-)
